Far Apart was a Swedish emo band from Luleå, active in the late 1990s. Formed in 1995 and named after a song by The Cure, the band featured Mats Ömalm (guitar, vocals), Kalle Nyman (bass, vocals), Stefan Sundström (guitar), and Tomas Nilsén (drums). Drawing inspiration from bands like Fugazi, Drive Like Jehu, and Jawbox, they crafted a raw, melodic sound that became a cult favorite.
Their debut 7” Hazel was released in 1997 on Sweden’s Carcrash Records and later picked up by the U.S. label Crank! Records in 1998. Despite major label interest, Far Apart stayed true to their DIY roots, touring Europe and releasing a split with The John Doe Band.
In the 2000s, their music quietly gained legendary status through Reddit threads and emo message boards, becoming a hidden gem among genre aficionados.
