The Impossible Five

The Impossible Five
The Impossible Five formed in Washington, D.C. in 1995 around guitarist Jason Simon and bassist Steve Kille, rounding out the lineup with vocalist Adam Krell and drummer Roland Lo. Their sound landed somewhere between fast surf guitar, Britpop, and 60s spy soundtrack, the kind of thing that felt distinctly out of step with the angular post-hardcore dominating the DC scene at the time, which was more or less the point.

They played Fort Reno and did some east coast touring, releasing their album on New Jersey's Gern Blandston Records before calling it around 1997-98. For younger DC-area bands coming up at the time, they were a fixture of the local scene. Simon and Kille went on to form Dead Meadow, but the instinct toward melody, mood, and a certain cinematic looseness was already there.
